Homeopathy is System of Medicine founded by Dr Samuel Hahnemann in Germany in 1810. The treatment is based on natural law of cure, let likes be treated by likes . Hahnemann himself is an orthodox Doctor of medicine -MD who rejected prevailing medical practices.
He set himself the task of developing a new system of medicine. He was inspired by a realisation that if a healthy person took cinchona, the natural source of quinine, he would suffer the symptoms of an ordinary attack of malaria. Experimenting on himself and his followers, he went on to apply this principle to other diseases. In 1796 he postulated a law of similar, stating that diseases should be treated by those drugs that produce similar disease symtoms in healthy individuals.
While trying to establish the smallest effective doses, he discovered to his surprise, that the more he diluted the active ingredients, the more effective they became. Although Hahnemann's works brought a wide following, his assertion that less of substance could be more effective was ridiculed and attracted opposition from more orthodox circles.

"The waiting room of Dr Nik Omar's clinic is busy. A schoolboy whose asthma cleared up within a day of taking homeopathic remedy has come back for some medicine to treat cold. A young woman is waiting for a pregnancy check up and to start a course of medicine for Esay Birth. A man whose severe migraine vanished after being treated by Dr Nik six months ago, has dropped in to pick up a repeat prescription.
For them, there is no question that homeopathy works. Like many of Dr Nik's patients, they show little concern about how or why it is effective. Only a few of the people in his waiting room say that they have come because homeopathy uses natural substances. More stress the fact that it is cheap. One elderly man, partially paralysed and walking with a stick, says that since his last heart attack, there is nothing more his doctor can do for him, Homeopathy is his last hope.
Dr Nik Omar does not fit the stereotype of didicated healer quietly pioneering his art. He is too bullish. Both his colleagues and his rivals acknowledge his tremendous energy. All recognise that he, more than anyone, is responsible for raising the homeopathic profile in Malaysia.
Dr Nik has written hundreds of articles about his work. he is an active member of international homeopathic community. In 1979 he set up his own version of French medical volunteer force Medicine Sans Frontiers.
Dr Nik has training in both conventional and homeopathic medicine. He studied both subjects for fve years at Govt, Pakistan Homeopathy Medical College & Trust Hospital, lahore before going to Britain to train at London School of Chiropody, University Colllege Hospital. At the same time from 1975 till 1977 he is doing his internship at Kilburn High Street, London and was appointed as medical adviser to the Malay student in London.
Homeopathy has always been his primary interest. When he return to Malaysia in 1977, it was a homeopathic practice, not a chiropody clinic, that he set up in his home town of Kota Bharu.
Currently, he is conducting a study of infertility which has brought one of his most celeberated successes. He tell of a couple who has been married for 12 years without having children untill in desperation, they came to him., " They has tried everything from faith healing to intensive tests at local hospital," he says "Within only three months of counselling and homeopathic treatment, the woman's pregnancy was confirmed."
